Teaching Pros
Shawnte Hagen
Shawnte Hagen is a Pickleball Coaching International (PCI) instructor who's been playing pickleball for 4 years. He's also a first-responder EMT working in emergency medicine on an ambulance for 18 years in Monterey County.
While growing up in Santa Cruz, Shawnte was focused on ocean sports like surfing and scuba diving; however he also played ping pong, tennis, and racquetball since he was old enough to hold a paddle, but did not have that competitive drive back then, until he shifted to pickleball.
Shawnte has competed at 4.0 in all three types of events, medaling in all. He is still working on earning his first gold in singles and men's doubles at 4.0. After quite a few requests, he began teaching beginner to intermediate players of all ages and mobility for a little over a year now, with an emphasis on helping students develop a well-rounded game, building on their strengths, helping solve any challenges while keeping solid fundamentals, and having a great time on the court as the basis of every lesson.
Shawnte does group and private lessons where he can help focus on certain skills, as well as covering basic and advanced strategies for tournaments, game situations, or just trying to beat that one team at recreational play that always seems to get the best of us. He strives to give each student specific help with their game in every lesson, and is as stoked as the students are when they have those "ah ha!" moments. Shawnte recently added an ERNE pickleball machine to his lessons to further help students and himself get to that next level on their pickleball journey.
