What a fun Moneyball event of 160+ players!

It's Moneyball Time!
Join us for the inaugural Santa Cruz Moneyball Series, a two-day SOCIAL event presented by Monica Lee & crew of La Barra Pickleball. Head over to Skypark and join us for some fantastic round robin battles where the top winning teams earn cash payouts of over $200+* and claim their Moneyball Kings & Queens Title!

Our Friday and Sunday games will be well-organized with the Scoreholio app and courtside kiosks to maximize your play time, minimize wait times, and easily enable you all to track your bracket progress. This is a DUPR event where all matches will be submitted to DUPR only if your DUPR account is linked to Scoreholio. Linking your DUPR account to Scoreholio event is not required -- totally optional (DUPR accounts are free!). Our event is open to all levels -- no worries if you don't have a DUPR. Over 40%+ of our Moneyball's net proceeds will support the Veteran Surf Alliance (VSA), a Santa Cruz 501(c)3 nonprofit. A number of us are playing in the Moneyball in the honor of our dads, family members & friends. Our goals with the VSA include getting more NorCal/Central Cal military veterans out there playing pickleball. We also plan to host a few introductory pickle clinics for the VSA in the near future. REGISTRATION FEES:

$25 per person per bracket, if registered by Friday, April 19, 2024.
$30 pp per event thereafter. Registration closes at 6pm PT, Wednesday April 24.

Brackets: Individual signup. Levels 3.0 and 3.5+.

Whether you're relatively new to pickleball or nearly pro, this is a fun way to meet up with more folks around your level.

You will be randomly paired by our software with 4 different partners for your first 4 doubles games. In the single elimination playoffs, the top half of players (determined by round 1 results) will be paired with the bottom half.

The top team per level & division wins a cash prize payout and the coveted Moneyball Kings & Queens title! See more bracket details & FAQs in the section below.

You & your partner play together the entire time -- from the 4 games or more in round 1 to the single elimination playoffs, where you'll fight for the Moneyball Kings & Queens DOUBLES titles and the cash prize!

CLOCK YOUR PICKLEBALL SERVE & DRIVE SPEEDS!

We’ll have the radar gun out for fun so you can clock how fast your pickleball serves & drives are. Look for the Test sessions conducted by tennis pro Fred Charlebois @ 12:30p -1:30p between the Women's & Men's divisions each day. Players can sign up courtside on the designated open court. It's free for registered Moneyball players.

CASH AWARDS

The cash payouts are based on a percentage of the registration fees at minimum per bracket, plus other added funds. Certain divisions have already reached the $200+ mark. The more registrants, the larger the cash payout! More updates soon : )

REFEREE:

We are thrilled to have USA pickleball referee Maree Creed to assist with our matches. We will share further information soon regarduing time-outs, server bands, and changing ends of the court.

EVENT PROCEEDS:
We are donating over 40% of net proceeds to the Veteran Surf Alliance. Some of the VSA team will be on hand at the event, including founder Sean Meyer.

BRACKET NOTES

All games are to 11, win by 2.
You must bring your mobile phone fully charged to the venue. You will be entering your game scores in the Scoreholio app -- no more paper and pencil!
For the Scoreholio app, we'll send you specific instructions on how to get set up per each bracket you've registered for.
NO DUPR RATING? This is a DUPR event, but if you don't have one, no worries. Just enter based on your rec skill level -- go here to determine your pickleball rating level, if you don't have a DUPR rating). DUPR accounts are free to sign up for.
MINIMUM AGE: minimum player age for our event is 12 years old.
DURATION & SCHEDULES:
- Friday Mixers: Each men's & women's division will last about 3.5 hours max, if registrations are sold out
- Sunday Battles: Each men's & women's division will last about 4 hours max, if registrations are sold out
DOUBLES BATTLES - Need a Partner? -- you can register ahead of your partner. If you do not have one and need help finding a partner, please let us know in your registration. We will do our best to help get you connected to one.

DOUBLES BATTLE and COMBINED DUPR LEVELS | FAQ
- We welcome DUPR teams of all levels -- level 6, 7 and 8.0+ are the minimumm total levels in general.
- If you do not have DUPR rating, please use your best judgement based on your skill level per this guide to self-rate and determine with level you should be playing in.
- Example #1: If you have a DUPR of 2.5 and your partner's DUPR is 4.0, your combined DUPR total is 6.5. Thus, you should register for the Doubles Battle DUPR Level 6.
- Example #2: If your DUPR is 3.0 and your partner's DUPR is 4.8, your combined DUPR total is 7.8. So, your team should enter the Doubles Battle DUPR level 7.
- Example #3: If your DUPR is 2.5 and your partner's DUPR is 2.8, for a combined total of 5.3, you are welcome to challenge yourselves and play at tthe Doubles Battle DUPR level 6.
- Example #4: If your DUPR is 4.5 and your partner's DUPR is 5.0, for a combined total of 9.5, you should enter the Doubles Battle level 8+ bracket. If there are enough teams north of 9 for combined DUPRs, we may add a new bracket.

NOTE: Bracket levels & groups may be combined or split further to create viable brackets per the discretion of organizers
We also reserve the right to move Doubles Battle teams and Mixer individuals to different brackets based on DUPR scores and community intel on your rec & DUPR levels : ).
Lastly, we will share

LIABILITY WAIVER:
By participating in the tournament, you release the tournament organizers, their employees, and affiliates from any liability for injuries or accidents that may occur during the event and you agree to the terms of our liability waiver.

REFUNDS & CANCELLATION POLICIES

All refunds due to cancellation will have a $10 admin fee through Tuesday Apr 23, 2024
No refunds for cancellations after Tuesday April 23, 2024, but player substitions may be allowed.
If we must cancel our event due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances, we will do our best to reschedule the event and/or issue refunds, less the $10 admin fee

Why no mixed doubles? We plan to focus on that with a future Moneyballl event,
Why are there no Saturday events? Per the guidance of the Santa Cruz Pickleball Club and friends, we wanted to be considerate to the regular Saturday crowds who pickle and play tennis there on the busiest day of the week for Skypark. However, Saturday is our backup day if rain is an issue for Friday
Do you need volunteers & interns? Yes we'd love to have more volunteers for multiple tasks, especially setup & tear down...and to also help with future events...Interns too! Please contact us per the button below or text Monica.

Our La Barra team looks forward to working with VSA President Dan Redmon, co-founder Sean Meyer and team to share the camaraderie, joy and health benefits of pickleball with their VSA members across their chapters in Northern and Central California.
